Julien Nguyen’s exhibition at Matthew Marks features sixteen new paintings that merge historical references with personal and contemporary subjects. Working on copper panels for the first time, Nguyen draws from Medieval, Renaissance, and Japanese techniques. The show includes self-portraits, intimate depictions of his muse Nikos, and small landscapes of Los Angeles, all reflecting his interest in image recognition, cultural memory, and emotional resonance across time.
