kurimanzutto and Luhring Augustine present a two-part exhibition of Julio Galán’s work, marking his first major New York solo show in over 20 years. Active from the 1980s until his passing in 2006, Galán explored identity, gender, and culture through a layered, enigmatic approach. Rejecting fixed categorization, he drew from Mexican folk traditions, Surrealism, and Pop Art to challenge binaries. His dynamic, theatrical works continue to provoke questions about self-construction and cultural identity.
