X-ray Island is an exhibition of work by Kunié Sugiura spanning six decades, bringing together photography, painting, photograms, and X-ray works. The presentation examines the relationship between surface and interior, emphasizing photography as a material and constructed object rather than a transparent image. Works range from early hand-printed color photographs to later photograms and X-rays, including Beach 2 and Vertebra, which contrast exterior landscapes with internal anatomical structures. Across the exhibition, Sugiura foregrounds process, materiality, and the physical trace of image-making.
