Lamparilla takes its title from a street in Old Havana and the oil lamps used during power outages, invoking endurance amid repression and scarcity. Gabriel Sanchez draws on portraits, documentary imagery, and installation to address suppression, exile, and daily life in Cuba. Paintings reference personal relationships and the July 11, 2021 protests, while a sculptural lamp installation evokes constraint, community, and interior life.
