David Zwirner presents a rare exhibition of Belgian artist Léon Spilliaert’s works, the first in New York in nearly 50 years. Curated by Dr. Noémie Goldman in collaboration with Agnews, Brussels, it highlights Spilliaert’s enigmatic style from the 1900s-1910s. Featuring self-portraits, landscapes, and lithographs inspired by Maurice Maeterlinck’s poetry, the exhibition captures the artist’s signature melancholy, solitude, and the haunting atmosphere of his coastal hometown, Ostend.
