Athi Patra Ruga’s multidisciplinary practice examines how myths are made and undone through performance, film, painting, textile, and glass. Centered on his imagined realm of Azania, the work draws from Xhosa histories and post apartheid South Africa to envision hybrid figures that navigate utopic and dystopic worlds. Through ritual, gender play, and crafted allegory, Ruga reimagines power and offers modes of resilience rooted in queer Black femme agency.
