Madeline Coven is an artist and designer based in Queens, New York. Working in sculpture and fabrication, she has exhibited work in the US and abroad. Her work focuses on materiality and craft through wood, clay, metal, textiles, resins, and a wide range of processes, aiming to highlight the long traditions they hold and the vast ways they can be interpreted and reimagined. Through a study of material histories, the natural world, and the ecosystems their interactions create, the work investigates the element of chance and change. Both the sculptural and functional sides of her work aim to hold a sense of time, through suggestion of movement and interpreting the way the earth naturally ages.
