In his second solo exhibition at haul, PLAY WITH IT DONT PLAY WITH ME, marcus scott williams transforms the gallery into a participatory space where language, sound, and sculpture interweave. Known for blurring boundaries between poetry, performance, and everyday speech, marcus uses audio sampling and improvisation to invite active collaboration. Visitors engage directly—triggering beats and projected texts via a MIDI controller, or contributing to an evolving digital life story on a public Google Doc.
Materially and conceptually, marcus treats sculpture like freestyle—sampling everyday matter such as hair, plastic, and tobacco blunt guts to create hybrid forms. His personal library is part of the show, bookended by blunt-gut sculptures, encouraging others to read, linger, and respond. Rooted in community, interaction, and play, marcus’ work invites reflection through shared language and open-ended participation.
