Mark Bradford: Untitled (A–Z), 2010 presents twenty-six works on paper, each showing a single letter of the alphabet, made from business posters Bradford collected in his South Los Angeles neighborhood. Layered and sanded down, ads reading phrases like “Stop Evictions” survive only as fragments. Cut loose from their messages, the letters point to the social and economic systems shaping the community they came from.
