In his sculptural installations, Mark Handforth transplants familiar objects found in civic infrastructure—such as municipal signs, motor scooters, hydrants, street lamps, wheels, and traffic cones—into unfamiliar surroundings and transforms them through reworking or deforming their structures to reveal something new about how these objects function in everyday life. Dr. Pepper (2017) marks a major public commission for this Miami-based artist, celebrating his practice of exploring skewed perspectives and unintended consequences that result from cultural exchange and displacement.
