GRIMM presents *die dünne Haut der Zivilisation* (*The Thin Skin of Civilization*), a solo exhibition of new paintings by Matthias Franz. Drawing on literary and historical sources, Franz uses ambiguous landscapes and enigmatic interiors to examine how the past shapes our understanding of the present. Cloaked figures, abandoned structures, and recurring references to Enlightenment and Luddite resistance reveal tensions surrounding power, technology, creativity, and the ideals sustaining civilized society.
