Nicelle Beauchene Gallery presents Mel’s Hole, James Miller’s fourth solo exhibition with the gallery, featuring new acrylic paintings that explore light and depth. Inspired by deep-sea life and subterranean spaces, Miller examines bioluminescence and perception. Using airbrushes, drills, and found objects, he manipulates surfaces to create immersive, illusionistic fields that challenge spatial understanding, evoking the experience of submersion in water, darkness, or atmospheric phenomena.
