Memory Cradle is a two-person exhibition featuring Kate Tova and Anastasia Tumanova, two Slavic artists exploring memory, folklore, and craft traditions. Drawing from Russian and Ukrainian folk traditions, the artists engage ornament, storytelling, and organic form as vessels for emotional and cultural memory. Tova's practice spans painting, sculpture, and site-responsive works using vibrant color and natural materials to investigate the relationship between psychological interiority and the natural environment, while also addressing themes of displacement and resilience informed by the ongoing war in Ukraine. Tumanova, a ceramic artist, translates nature's shapes, patterns, and textures into abstract dimensional artworks and installations inspired by California flora and traditional Russian craft. Together, they construct a shared space where folklore, ecology, and personal history intertwine, offering a meditation on how cultural memory is carried forward through material, pattern, ritual, and the handmade object.
