This exhibition examines Dr. Charles Smith's sculptures through the lens of anti-monumentalism, a form that challenges the conventions of traditional monuments. Smith sculpted memorials spotlighting histories and everyday lives excluded from official narratives, ranging from tributes to Hurricane Katrina victims and the Underground Railroad to Chicago's first Black postmaster.
