Mulberry Bend brings together Canal Street Research Association, David L. Johnson, Sidian Liu, and Paul Pfeiffer around the historic Chinatown neighborhood that gives the exhibition its name. Curated by Dylan Seh-Jin Kim as part of Protocinema's Emerging Curator Series, the exhibition explores the relationship between art's autonomy, use value, and civic function in response to contemporary social struggles facing the community. The works consider how artistic practice might generate civic engagement without reverting to the didactic or extractive models that have historically accompanied social practice.
