Artists Space presents Theresa Hak Kyung Cha: Multiple Offerings, the first retrospective in twenty-five years dedicated to the groundbreaking artist. After emigrating from South Korea, Cha studied art, comparative literature, and film at UC Berkeley before contributing to experimental art scenes across New York, San Francisco, and Paris. Working across text, video, and performance — including her genre-defying book Dictée (1982) — she prioritized nonlinear narrative and open-ended interpretation, what she called "Multiple Telling with Multiple Offering." Murdered in November 1982, weeks before her planned Artists Space exhibition, Cha left behind an unfinished photographic series inspired by her time at the Met. The retrospective presents that series alongside nearly one hundred works and archival materials.
