My Fantasy's Burdens is an exhibition of new works by Kyungmi Shin that explore cultural identity and colonialism through symbolic visual language. Shin transfers Korean American diasporic portraits onto found chinoiserie textiles—artifacts of Orientalist fantasy. She then overlays botanic forms once subjected to colonial taxonomies alongside icons drawn from Korean shamanistic cosmology: animals, talismanic symbols, deities, and hybrid beings. The result is a visual palimpsest where diaspora, desire, and colonial history are held in the same surface.
