Mythic Muses at Zepster Gallery brings together four women artists whose work reimagines folklore, mythology, and fairy tales through a contemporary lens. Drawing on iconic stories such as “The Princess and the Pea,” the exhibition explores perception, identity, and the expansive possibilities of imagination. The paintings reinterpret archetypal narratives with personal, political, and emotional insights.
Grace Bromley examines gender and selfhood through fairytale and myth, blending critique with dark humor. Her figures express raw human emotions—fear, anger, loneliness, desire—while interrogating Western ideals of individualism. Catie Dillon creates immersive worlds through linework and altered spatial depth, constructing painterly spaces that seem to unfold beyond the canvas. Annie Goldman uses animals and sacred symbolism to construct personal midrashim, merging biblical and mystical references into metaphysical journeys of transformation. Maya Perry, informed by her background in experimental music and animation, brings an interdisciplinary sensibility to her work, infusing her visual storytelling with movement, sound, and ritual.
Together, the artists engage with ancient stories to construct new visions—part dream, part critique—grounded in personal voice and mythic imagination.
