Nancy Evans is a Los Angeles-based artist whose painting practice is shaped by an early background in sculpture. After studying at UC Berkeley, she moved to Los Angeles in the early 1980s, drawn by the city’s experimental art scene and the influence of artists such as Mike Kelley, Jim Shaw, and Megan Williams. Her work balances structure and spontaneity, often incorporating sculptural thinking and an exploratory approach to materials. Evans was featured in the 2023 Made in L.A. Biennial, where her large-scale paintings inspired by Southern California’s super moons reimagined the traditions of transcendental landscape painting through a contemporary lens.
