Nature Morte, 1982–1988 is the first survey of the influential East Village gallery founded by Alan Belcher and Peter Nagy. Featuring early works—some unseen for decades—by artists including Gretchen Bender, Steven Parrino, Julia Wachtel, Louise Lawler, and others, the exhibition revisits a scene that countered Neo-Expressionism with appropriation, photographic strategies, and neo-conceptual approaches, probing mass media, advertising, and systems of display.
