Erick Víquez creates oil paintings rooted in memory, history, and the Gothic of Latin America. His Nightglow series transforms the rural outskirts of Alajuela into nocturnal terrains where moonlight, fire, and shadow unsettle the familiar. Figures and landscapes appear spectral, charged with secrecy and violence. Drawing on archives, literature, and ecology, Víquez resists the “tropical picturesque,” presenting the night as a living, ambiguous presence.
