Notes from Lagunilla marks Monika Michalko’s New York debut, presenting paintings shaped by recent travels in Mexico. Her saturated, destabilized compositions merge landscape and still life into immersive worlds of shifting scale and skewed perspective. Inspired by markets such as La Lagunilla, works feature piñatas, textiles, and La Catrina, reimagined through prismatic color. Michalko constructs theatrical spaces where commerce, myth, and memory circulate at once.
