Nutmeg's Curse presents six new paintings by Julie Heffernan, her second solo exhibition with Hirschl & Adler Modern. Taking its title from Amitav Ghosh's critique of the spice trade and climate crisis, the works feature dramatically scaled flowers in states of bloom and decay, nutmegs appearing as memento mori. Embedded within are miniature scenes of planes crashing, volcanoes erupting, cities burning—monumental still lifes that function simultaneously as self-portrait and planetary witness.
