One Becomes The Other is an exhibition of new watercolor paintings by Nery Gabriel Lemus that combine near-photographic soft focus with traditional Guatemalan textiles to explore how identity is shaped, carried forward, and transformed across generations. Lemus casts his gaze from childhood in Pico-Union toward an imagined future, tracing the throughlines of immigrant experience—in fabric, flowers, hands clasped in prayer, and the symbols that make up a life.
