Francine Tint: Open Color introduces an 83-year-old Abstract Expressionist whose paintings — rooted in Color Field but entirely her own — are made intuitively in a converted bedroom studio overlooking Washington Square Park. Large-scale and acrylic, the works let negative space play an active role in soft, serene color. A former fashion stylist who dressed David Bowie and made costumes for Ridley Scott, Tint studied painting at night while working by day — and once cold-mailed Clement Greenberg, who visited her studio for 13 years until his death.
