Out of the Woods presents Brenda Draney’s new paintings, drawing on her childhood in Slave Lake, Alberta, and Cree folklore. Sparse compositions position figures and objects—like blankets, ferries, or mattresses—within bare canvas, evoking memory, trauma, and estrangement. Draney transforms personal experience into collective reflection, exploring the dissonance between appearance and reality, intimacy and alienation, and the quiet presence of loss, change, and vigilance.
