Palimpsests presents new paintings and ceramic sculptures by Los Angeles-based artist Alan Chin, tracing the layered lineages—familial, artistic, and cultural—that inform his practice. Monumental red envelope canvases honor intergenerational gifting rituals; ceramic bonsai and spiral pinch pots find patterns of time in nature; tenmoku-glazed stoneware connects to Yuan dynasty China. Through his interdisciplinary practice, Chin engages the tension between structure and instability, revealing how objects carry cultural, emotional, and historical significance through use and time.
