Paradise is a series of colored pencil portraits by Robert Lucy based on archival photographs of young men from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. While the sitters appear formally posed, Lucy imagines their inner lives through lush, surreal landscapes and symbolic adornments that merge with their bodies. Using meticulous pencil work and colored paper, he transforms historical restraint into visions of desire, intimacy, and imagined freedom across time.
