Period Piece draws on Paul Etienne Lincoln’s ongoing project The World and its Inhabitants, a miniature theater of mechanical figures inspired by historical and fictional characters like Marchesa Casati. Activated through intricate systems, each effigy performs brief gestures before returning to stillness. Alongside Lincoln, artists reinterpret historical imagery, design, and consumer culture, transforming inherited references into staged environments that probe memory, myth, and spectacle.
