This exhibition pairs Phong Bui’s recent meditation works and portraits with Sol LeWitt’s conceptual drawings, photographs, and sculpture. Though their practices differ—Bui’s rooted in ritual and the body, LeWitt’s in systems and the mind—both explore process, community, and democracy.
LeWitt’s geometric compositions follow strict rules that allow for variation, while Bui’s works are governed by time, materials, and meditative constraints. Both treat drawing as a framework where imperfection and individuality can emerge.
Their shared use of grids and modular structures reflects a belief in equality—of parts, people, and processes—where no element is privileged, and every gesture carries meaning.
