Photographs and Films traces more than fifty years of work by Tim Maul, who turned away from painting to photograph what’s overlooked between the things we see. Early Super 8 films—anxious mini dramas performed with mundane objects—share space with color photographs, magic-inflected puzzles, and a recent series of deliberately blurred images documenting a personal poetry collection. Maul's approach elevates banal subjects and hidden meanings into sensually colored objects that combine intellect, irony, wit, pathos, and beauty.
