Pierre Soulages’s *Paintings on Paper* gathers more than twenty works on paper, most previously unexhibited, organized with Colette Soulages. Walnut stain, gouache, and ink on paper—his first support since the mid-1940s—often anticipate later canvas developments. Rapid absorption locks decisions in place, framing paper as the purest register of his “inner imperative.”
