In her sculptural work, New York artist Nicole Eisenman has long favored plaster for its sensual, visceral, and intuitive qualities. The exhibition Plastered at Anton Kern Gallery features ten relief portraits titled Understudies, alongside two large wall reliefs—one depicting a bather with a cat—as well as various recent works, including a new portrait painting. The material’s natural texture and color lend the exhibition a sense of warmth and intimacy while also provoking thought with its raw, expressive presence.
