The Painting Center presents Playground, a solo exhibition by Kim Smith Claudel, running April 1–26, 2025. Through abstraction, Smith Claudel treats painting as a site for experimentation, embracing both discovery and failure. Layers are built, scraped, and reworked in a process that mimics improvisation. Shifting between structure and instability, her compositions evoke playgrounds—spaces of movement, uncertainty, and suspended gravity, where forms drift, collide, and momentarily find balance.
