Jill Magid: Pooler Room

Mister Fahrenheit New York · Lower East Side / East Village
Exhibition on view: Apr 27, 2026 - Jun 16, 2026

Jill Magid: Pooler Room traces power structures through the overlapping histories of two subterranean pools — the former swimming pool of paralyzed Vietnam veteran and peace activist Bobby Muller, which once occupied the Mister Fahrenheit space, and FDR's White House therapy pool, now buried beneath the James S. Brady Press Briefing Room. Upstairs, a carpet modeled after the briefing room platform and continuous C-SPAN broadcast evoke the press pool's function as institutional witness. Downstairs, performances by vocalist Charmaine Lee — voice altered by water — layer against audio of Muller's interview, the sound of a pen competing with his voice.
