Kravets Wehby Gallery is pleased to announce, Primeval Tapestry, a solo exhibition of new paintings by Christina Nicodema. At first glance, Christina Nicodema’s paintings appear as neat still lifes. Upon closer inspection, the thick paint reveals life in motion. Mold, insects, and vermin, make a home of these stacked delicacies and blend seamlessly into the elaborate tapestry backdrop. A feast for the eyes, Christina’s cakes allure and revolt viewers while making room for questions, like how did the critters gain access to the dessert table? And what are the cakes in celebration of? and Cake... or tree? The gluttonous nature of the work evokes the primal part of human consciousness that seeks calories, sugar and dopamine.
