de la Torre Brothers: Psychopomp presents elaborate mixed-media glass sculptures and lenticular prints centered on the figure of the psychopomp — guide of souls — as a lens for exploring cultural transience, diasporic experience, and social class stratification. At the exhibition's heart stands Coyote de Almas, a four-foot figure referencing the "coyotes" who help migrants cross the US-Mexico border, adorned with a crown of cacti and holding a staff. Baroque maximalism layers found objects — dice, cameo jewelry, mahjong tiles — into visually dense narratives that move between ancient Mexican mythology, Chicano culture, and American consumerism, navigating the sacred and profane with humor, wit, and urgent social commentary.
