Open Source Gallery presents Redbird by Shane Charles, a sculptural system rooted in Penobscot knowledge and family traditions of mapping and land surveying. Built from steel, hemlock, and patterned joinery, the work embodies endurance, adaptation, and generational memory. Drawing on Eastern Woodlands methods, Redbird responds to human presence and seasonal change, recording traces of contact while evoking survival and loss in Maine’s harsh winters.
