Sacred and Profane

Leslie-Lohman Museum of Art New York · Tribeca / SoHo
Exhibition on view: Feb 20, 2026 - Apr 12, 2026

Sacred and Profane is a two-person exhibition by Pamela Sneed and Carlos Martiel examining Black presence, erasure, and endurance on Fire Island. Through works on paper, collage, photography, and performance, the artists address hidden histories of enslavement, colonial violence, and Black queer embodiment. Drawing on archival records, natural materials, and the body as witness, the exhibition situates Fire Island as a site of memory, grief, resistance, and continued reckoning.
