Samella! Black as Lacquer and Iron honors Samella Lewis, the artist, educator and Scripps College art historian considered the first African American woman to earn a PhD in art history. Curated by her former student Francine Farr, it pairs her drawings and prints with work by Alison Saar, Claude Lewis, Harmon Outlaw and others.
