Michael Werner Gallery presents Scarecrow, a new body of work by Sanya Kantarovsky. Over the course of a year, Kantarovsky created paintings inspired by dreams, life, and personal experiences, including witnessing the death of a friend's dog. Influenced by Georges Bataille and Watteau, Kantarovsky explores discomfort, vulnerability, and the tension between beauty and decay. His figures often exhibit downcast or averted gazes, suggesting shame, humility, and the unease of being observed.
