Seth Price presents new paintings that shift toward minimalism and abstraction through a reduced language of circles and squares inspired by Taoist cosmological diagrams. Using paints prepared from powdered iron, steel, and aluminum applied to panels of lead, aluminum composite, and cold-rolled steel, Price then photographs compositions in process and feeds them into software generating algorithmic patterns he calls "dreams of the alien technical world." Two works feature the artist's studio reflected in a metallic orb suggesting insect eye, surveillance camera, or self-contained world. As Price writes: "Only a painting can put human action and machine action into a single plane."
