Fridman Gallery presents Somatic Domain, Debra Cartwright’s first solo exhibition with the gallery. Through painting and mixed media, Cartwright responds to the legacy of medical exploitation of Black women, particularly the abuses of J. Marion Sims. Informed by her own family history, her fluid, abstracted figures offer a path toward re-embodiment and personal agency, encouraging intimate reflection and honoring the resilience of those once denied autonomy.
