Steak and Potatoes

Stowaway Los Angeles · Eastside
Exhibition on view: Aug 15, 2026 - Sep 19, 2026

Steak and Potatoes contrasts the deep evolutionary history of potatoes with the modern invention of the steak, arguing that everyday foods are shaped by geology, technology, and capitalism as much as nature. Moving between personal reflection and cultural history, the essay transforms ordinary ingredients into lenses for thinking about time, materiality, and human existence.

Amanda Nedham

Amanda Nedham completed her BFA at OCAD University in Printmaking and her MFA at RISD in Painting. She works and lives in Brooklyn, NY. Her studio practice is interdisciplinary with an emphasis on drawing and installation. Nedham is interested in collapsing the monumental and the mundane through radical memorial gestures, with a current emphasis on communing with the dead. Recent exhibitions include I'll draw you a fly at Field Projects (NYC), Frida Smoked at Invisible-Exports (NYC), and My Boyfriend is a Peacekeeper at Putty's Coronation (NYC). She has received grants from the Ontario Arts Council and the Toronto Arts Council, and in 2019 published My Boyfriend is a Peacekeeper.
