Paul Resika: Sun, Sea, Surf, Sand presents eight recent paintings distilling the beach to three horizontal bands — sky, sea, and sand — rendered in heavy impasto with quick brushstrokes and kinetic daubs that evoke the shimmer of summer light. Two paintings replace the lower band of sand with frothing surf, paint squeezed directly from the tube appearing to break against the picture plane itself. Now in his late nineties, Resika continues the synthesis of abstraction and representation that has defined eight decades of work rooted in Hofmann's teachings and the light of Provincetown and the Italian masters.
