Hark Back to Ukiyo-e: Tracing Superflat to Japonisme’s Genesis is a solo exhibition by Takashi Murakami presenting 24 new paintings. Drawing on ukiyo-e bijinga and their influence on Impressionism, the works examine composition, sensual detail, and pictorial devices that shaped modern painting, reinterpreted through Murakami’s Superflat technique and layered silkscreened surfaces.

Takashi Murakami (born 1962, Tokyo), Japanese contemporary artist, based between Japan and the United States, known for painting, sculpture and installations, founder of the Superflat movement, blending traditional Japanese art, anime and consumer culture, his work explores pop aesthetics, commercialism, spirituality and the relationship between high and low art.
