Taylor Spong: A Bridge to Goodbye presents two large canvases built from layers of paint peeled directly from the century-old hardwood floors of his Williamsburg studio. Canvas is laid over paint-treated floorboards strewn with found materials, then peeled away once dry, lifting strata of paint and lacquer dating back to the building's origins. Time is inverted: the oldest gestures are exposed while the most recent are concealed. Rooted in a two-decade practice of design and construction, the works embody both print and sculpture, offering a material language for entropy — the futile and beautiful human urge to restore a world that will not last.
