That Was Then

Picture Theory New York · Chelsea
Exhibition on view: Jun 11, 2026 - Jul 18, 2026

Bryony Rose and Molly Wasielewski: That Was Then brings together ceramic and textile-based practices that consider memory through the details of everyday life. Rose uses ceramic tile to draw from autobiographical imagery of rural Scotland, centering on the "lay-by" — the roadside turnout — as a site of pause where flora, tire marks, and hubcaps meet traditional Scottish decorative motifs. Wasielewski translates public archive photographs into hand-beaded miniature tapestries, forms blurring through the slow process of translation until the works move closer to mementos than representations. This is the New York debut for both artists.
