The Ark brings together 89 animal sculptures by a multigenerational group of artists, curated by Eric Fischl and Eric Shiner. Taking its title from the myth of the Deluge as a metaphor for contemporary environmental and social upheaval, the exhibition centers on relationships rather than urgency alone — the instinctive human tendency to care for vulnerable beings and acknowledge their contributions to collective life. Originally presented in Sag Harbor, this expanded iteration opens at Powerhouse Arts on the Gowanus Canal, a Superfund site whose history of environmental destruction and postindustrial transformation gives the exhibition new resonance. The animals assembled bear witness to forces threatening our existence while illuminating what remains most worth preserving.
