The Fight Between Carnival and Lent at Friedrichs Pontone draws inspiration from Pieter Bruegel the Elder’s 1559 painting, staging a dynamic contrast between restraint and indulgence. Featuring eleven artists from five countries, the exhibition unfolds across two levels: the top floor evokes Lent with formal, minimal works, while the darker lower level channels Carnival’s chaotic energy. Together, the curation mirrors the societal dualities and tension captured in Bruegel’s original scene.
